I don't know mate, I've been up north!

29 april 2015 - Western Australia, Australië

It's already been 3 weeks since I had my 13hour travelday to my new job in Balladonia. It was a long long day, but I arrived safely and I enjoyed travelling by train. The landscaps is amazing, it's so different and it changes every hour. It was a pretty sad day though, it was rainy and cold. Yep, prepare for winter in South-Australia, it's gonna be like an European Autumn, blehg, not so excited about that, but I'll survive.
Balladonia roadhouse/hotel/motel was, as expected, in the middle of nowhere, but, in contrast to Onslow, this wasn't a small town, this was really just a petrolstation next to the road, with no house or people living closeby. It was very isolated and quiet. People come in to pay for their petrol, maybe some food and they leave again. After my first few days, I felt like I didn't belong there. There were almost no costumers and the minutes seemed like hours, time went by sooooo slow and there was absolutely no interaction and it just bored me to death. I wanted to give it a few more days, to see if it would get better, but it didn't really. Except for the second day. That was a real life movie scene happening at the shop. In the middle of the night someone drove into the shop with his car. The whole frontdoor and windows next to it, were all gone and he hit one of the big fridges as well, it was a complete chaos. Aparently he was in the need for some juice and water, haha some people saw it happening and called the nearest police station (2hours away) and when the police arrived the guy was still wandering around in the shop. He didn't really take anything, he was so high on drugs that he didn't know what he was doing. They arrested him and that was it. Haha something exciting happening in Balladonia whoopwhoop! But the days after that, were boring as hell, so after a week I decided I didn't want to stay somewhere I didn't feel happy and I went back to Perth. When I told the manager, he wasn't too pleased and he kinda kicked me out. He said, well then I'll drop you off at the busstop first thing in the morning. I was like: wow really, that fast? But alright, that's even better, then I can still see Recha in Perth before she leaves. I looked at bus and traintickets online, but couldn't book anything, the website said the service wasn't available. I spoke to the manager about this and he ensured me that there was no problem and that there will be a bus and train to Perth. I knew something was wrong, it didn't feel right. I decided to get up really early to see if I could get a ride with one of the truckers who stayed at the caravanparc, but they left before dawn. I got dropped off at the service station in Norseman, where I called the public transport company to see if I could get a bus and trainticket to Perth. The lady told me there was no train to Perth that day, the next train would be in two days. TWO DAYS!! Reallllyyyy??? So I asked this guy who was standing in front of the gasstation where he was going. He was on his way to Kalgoorlie and he wanted to give me a ride, so at least I would be on my way. I jumped in with all my stuff and we were on our way. I'm hitchhiking in Australia!!! Why not?! He was a nice guy, he was around 45 years old, served in the army and was travelling and working around Australia. We talked the whole way, about travelling and life. He had great stories and it was an inspiration to talk to him. After a few hours driving we arrived in Kalgoorlie, where he was gonna drop me off at the trainstation or truckstop, so I could get another ride from there to Perth, but there was no way I was gonna get out of there, so he decided to give me a ride all the way to Perth. He was gonna go there the next day, so he didn't mind at all and he liked my company I guess. While we were in Kalgoorlie, we couldn't leave without seeing the biggest mining pit in Australia. Kalgoorlie's superpit! It was huge!!!! It was pretty cool to see something like that, people come to Kalgoorlie just to see that pit. We had some lunch and started our 7hours journey to Perth. After a few hours, we swapped seats and I drove the rest of the way.

I arrived around 8pm at the hostel and is felt like coming home. All the people I was hanging out with before I left were still there and it was a pretty nice welcome back party. They just had a bbq and there was some food left, so they put me in a chair, poored me a drink and a few hours later we went out for drinks! Who says you need to rest after driving for 12hours
It was so good to see Recha again and with two other girls we just spend all day at the parc, going out for dinner and drinks and it was great.  When Recha left I moved back to my old room where my MFTB-friend Danielle was so we were reunited again! Yayy! I was busy in my head with organizing a new job, because I didn't want to waste any more time and money, but I realized I spend the last 4 months working, so I should give myself a little break and just enjoy myself for a while. And when I did that, things worked themselfs out. Danielle and I are going on a roadtrip to Broome and I found my friend Stuart, who I met in Bali last year. He has a farm and wants to help me out with my farmwork.

I went with him to his farm this weekend, to hang out and see the farm. He picked me up on Friday and went to Rockingham, a little south of Perth. We had dinner with his parents at a nice restaurant next to the beach. The sunset was amazing and after that we went for few drinks at a cute little bar with his friends. The next morning we woke up at 5, to go to the Anzec day service. On Anzec day the Aussies and Kiwi's remember the soldiers that served in the army during the wars. It was a beautiful service at dusk, with the sunrise on the background. It was nice to be part of that and see and experience the way another country "celebrates" rememberance day. It was kindoff the same as how we do it in The Netherlands though, but still nice! In the afternoon we drove down to the farm. It's so close to the beach and it's close to a really cute little town. Stuart is just starting building the farm, so at the moment there is not much on his farm except for a few cows, sheep and a donkey named Princess. He doesn't have a house yet, so it's cool to see how he's gonna build his farm from scratch. There is so much to do, so he could reallly need my help. We picked up his friend Jamie for dinner, we went to the drive-inn cinema and ate a lot of popcorn!!! It was a fun night and I practiced my Aussie accent! :PThe next day we had a bbq on the beach and watched the sunset. After dinner we went for a drive through the bush and Stuart showed me how to shoot a gun. We practiced on cans and it was so badass!! After practise, it was time for the real deal! Shoot a kangaroo for tomorrow's dinner! So we were driving around in the bush, looking for kangaroo's with our torches. When I shouted: look there's one, Stu slowed down and looked to the left. But that exact moment, we heard and felt a big bump and saw all these kangaroo's crossing the road. Oh my god! We hit a kangaroo, hahaha it was so ironic. We were gonna shoot one, but then we just killed it with the car! It was kinda sad, but it was an accident. So we skinned it right then and there. We took his legs and tail, those are the best parts to eat. There was blood everywhere and it made me feel a little bit sad, but then when you think about it... This happens to all the meat to have on your plate, you don't think about it like that, but this kangaroo had a great life, hopping around in Australia and happend to hit a car. It's a waste to leave it there and not eat it right?! So the next day there was sweet potatoes, corn and fresh roadkill kangaroo on the menu ;)
It was really nice actually! It's weird to actually knów what you're eating. I don't think I ever experienced that before. I've always had meat from the supermarket I guess... Pretty cool experience, that's the real farm/outback life for ya. Roadkill dinner!

The last few days I've been back in Perth, the weather is kinda shit, so it's not much fun. I've just been organizing my travels. Booked my flights to Thailand and Indonesia, which is prettttyyy excitinggg!! Can't wait to travel Asia again!!! And see Tanya, my parents and my sister!! Untill then I'm gonna have a roadtrip with Danielle and James to Broome and work at Stu's farm, so that's gonna be awesome as well! It's kinda weird to have the next few months all planned out, but I guess that's a good thing! Can't wait for all the good times that are coming!! Happy days!
