Thailand adventures

2 juli 2015 - Ayuthaya, Thailand

Two days before my flight, I fell. Does that sound familiar to anyone?! I feel a little flashback to almost exactly a year ago, when I torn the ligaments in my ankle. But this time, I fell of a horse and I possibly cracked my hip and ribs, but 'don't worry the treatment is the same', rest rest rest and 'we advice you not to fly'. I got a fit-to-fly statement, so there is no way that I'm not going. I-AM-FLYING-TO-THAILAND, no change of plans this time, no way. All drugged up, I checked in my luggage and said goodbye to Stuart. Tanya here I come! So so sooo ready for Asia again. I had two flights, first to Kuala Lumpur and then to Bangkok. Thanks to my painkillers I slept the whole way and arrived in Bangkok just in time for cocktails and dinner at Kao San Road. It was great to see Tanya again, celebrating, catching up and enjoying Bangkok. Unfortunately not for too long, because we booked the nighttrain to Koh Tao that same day. Yep, those where some pretty heavy and long days of travel, but the next day we arrived in paradise!!! And it was all worth it. We had te cutest little wooden bungalow, with seaview and our own private beach and treehouse restaurant. We just chilled for two days, having naps on the beach, reading our books, chatting and drinking cocktails and coconuts. After two days of relaxing, we were ready for some action. My bruised body felt good enough (good drugs) to do a daytrip to Sairee Beach. We walked around, enjoyed the beautiful beach and found another cute bungalow for the next two days. We stayed right on the beach and watched the firedancers while sipping our Tequila Sunsrise and Mai Thai's. We both finished two books in 5 days, so we thought it was time for some action. Traveling North is the plan. We took the nighttrain back to Bangkok and from there on we took the train to Ayutthaya. The former capital of Thailand, with a huge history and ancient ruines. We arrived early in the morning and rented two bicycles, to bike around town all day. It was gorgeous and the ruines where amazing. We sat on our bikes and I just felt so happy. Funny to ride here, in this busy city, filled with chaos, foodstalls, cars, tuktuk's, tangled powerlines and monks on motorbikes, but yet so relaxing and totally normal. We had an awesome day, ending with sunset at the ruines and dinner at the nightmarket. No pizzaria and western food here my friend, Tanya's first streetfood experience was a great success, so we went to another nightmarket the next night. This was even next level streetfood for Tanya. The first night we sat down at a table and ordered from the menu, but the second night we walked around and got little snacks at every foodstall and found a table to eat our collected dinner in style. She's becoming a real backpacker and I'm so happy that she's here. Mostly because I need her to carry my bigass suitcase of course. It's hilarious, we're like celebrities, people want to take pictures with us, even the railway police gathered up for a photo with the two tall blonde girls. Some people are acting weird, like the trainconductor on the nighttrain. Giving us a package with a beercan in it, acting all sneaky and secretive, like it's a gift, but then asking us money for it, haha we could only laugh about it, funny things.
We just arrived in Chang Mai after an 12h travelday. Went very smoothly, my back/side/ribs are pretty sore, but it's time for new adventures in the North of Thailand!!
